MPA walked ‘caught’ me in the lab at lunch time…I had just laid down for a nap knowing that I was to go to the barge roof top for the pinning of a master chief. The lab was locked and lights were off. I heard MPA coming down the p-way talking to someone saying, “That’s shaft ally we’ll go there later.” Then he pushed on the lab door as if he was the police. With nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of…feeling justified for skipping the muster…I opened the door. “What the hell…what’s going on?…were you sleeping Nasfell?” I replied… “well…” His buddy piped up, “The lights were off.” MPA then spoke with authority, “DON’T YOU LIE TO ME NASFELL.” I said, “I was taking a little rest sir.”
I went to the pinning begrudgingly after being told to do so. The main reason for placing sleep as my priority was to walk the very lube oil alignment/system that MPA has been pressing us for. I was tired from running the PRT this morning. I was offended that MPA assumed that I was a liar. Why would I have answered the door if I had something to cover up? I opened it because I trusted MPA to be the type of leader that says, “Hey what’s going on? Tell me what’s up.” He can be a good leader and listener. This moment was not the case. There is much more that I can say to justify my position…not that he didn’t have reason to correct me and order me to be where I needed to be…my point is that “THINGS AREN’T ALWAYS WHAT THEY APPEAR.” Remember this as a leader. Dictatorship has been very prevalent on my ship lately and I have been burdened by it.
I prayed for comfort. Later as I was doing the tag out audit a contractor called me over (for no good reason but to offer advice). I spoke with him and his buddy for about 30 minutes. They are both retired from the Navy. They spit wisdom like crazy! I just soaked it up…I felt so good afterwards. They were heaven sent.
